Some of it was predictable but there was plenty I didn't see coming and the carnage and mayhem was exactly what I wanted out of a werewolf novel. Honestly, everything I thought I would hate about this book I ended up loving so I can make no serious complaints. There is some sweet sarcasm that was dished out in just the right dose, meaning I actually kinda liked her sass. I also really loved that Elena was stubborn and did stupid things and thought stupid thoughts but you could kinda see that, even though it was told in first person. I thought I would hate the predictable relationship between Elena and Clay but them hating on each other all the time was actually a lot of fun. (view spoiler) They were such a fun bunch. I also took to the characters unexpectedly fast. Nothing soothes my soul more than blood and guts and absolute chaos. I mean, there were some things that were a bit ehhh, like poor old Phillip who was always going to get the raw end of the deal, but the mayhem totally won me over. I went into this book a little sceptical, and the slowish start had me fully expecting to be trashing it by the end, but. Not for the squeamish, but otherwise horror lovers should be thoroughly entertained.In describing this book, I would first and foremost like to use the words carnage, mayhem and kinky. Dye Cut, waterproof, weatherproof, dishwasher safe, & fade resistant. I enjoyed the atmosphere of it, and while Sam made some utterly idiotic decisions, it led to some rather fascinating events. Overall, though, it was a disturbing story that made for compulsive reading. There were a few too many for my tastes, and while they were rather creative, at times it stunted the action for me instead of enhancing it. One thing that did begin to frustrate me, though, was all the similes. I didn't mind it, but I would have enjoyed a little more on the history and lore and that mysterious black book. It's a short story at only 158 pages, so it packs in a lot of action at the expense of background details. Mostly I just love how evil this witch is. I loved how it jumped straight into the action and never let up I loved how it wasn't just violence - there were mind games, too. I really enjoyed the first part, in which Sam and his friend Anthony take on a witch and her crow minions in a small cabin. It was hard to breathe towards the end there. But then when it picks up again it's even crazier than before and WOW. It's chaotic and fast-paced almost the entire way through, with only a brief lull in the middle to relate a little backstory on witches. The creep-factor on this one is seriously high.
